Why You Need an Attorney for a Clearwater, FL DUI

Knowledge of the Law

One of the top reasons why you need an attorney for a Clearwater, FL DUI is their knowledge of the law. DUI laws can be complex and vary from state to state. An experienced attorney will have a deep understanding of the specific laws in Clearwater, FL and can navigate the legal system on your behalf.

Protection of Your Rights

When facing a DUI charge, it is crucial to have an attorney who will protect your rights. They will ensure that law enforcement followed proper procedures during your arrest and that your rights were not violated. An attorney can also advise you on what to say and what not to say to law enforcement, protecting you from self-incrimination.

Reduction of Penalties

A DUI conviction can result in severe penalties, including fines, license suspension, mandatory alcohol education programs, and even jail time. An attorney can help you reduce these penalties by negotiating with the prosecution or presenting evidence in your favor. They may be able to get your charges reduced to a lesser offense or even have them dismissed altogether.

Knowledge of Legal Options

An attorney will be well-versed in the legal options available to you. They can explore possible defenses, such as challenging the accuracy of breathalyzer or blood test results, questioning the legality of the traffic stop, or arguing that the field sobriety tests were administered incorrectly. They can also advise you on the potential consequences of pleading guilty versus fighting the charges in court.

Guidance Through the Legal Process

Navigating the legal process can be overwhelming, especially if you are unfamiliar with it. An attorney will guide you through each step, ensuring that you meet all deadlines and requirements. They will handle all the necessary paperwork, court appearances, and negotiations, allowing you to focus on your personal life and responsibilities.

Experience in DUI Cases

Attorneys who specialize in DUI cases have extensive experience in handling similar cases. They understand the strategies that work best in these situations and can use their expertise to build a strong defense on your behalf. My name is attorney David Hardy and I practice criminal law in Florida. I specialize in Florida DUI defense. I have been practicing since 2005 and my office is located near Clearwater, Florida.

I attended Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts in the evenings while working as a high school and middle school teacher during the day.

Attending law school in the evenings while working during the day was a challenging endeavor, but I found it fulfilling. Additionally, I had the opportunity to acquire valuable legal experience as a summer intern at the United States Attorney’s Office in Providence, Rhode Island. Upon graduation, I achieved high honors and ranked in the top 4% of my class.

I worked as a Tampa state prosecutor for over five years, handling various DUI cases. Through my experience as a DUI prosecutor, I gained insights into the workings of the criminal justice system and recognized the significant impact a skilled criminal defense attorney can have on their client’s life.

In 2010, I transitioned from working at the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office to opening The Hardy Law Firm, P.A. My firm specializes in providing defense for individuals facing DUI charges in Florida courts.

I am certified as an expert in criminal trial law by the Florida Bar and the National Board of Trial Advocacy. I have taught college courses on criminal evidence and constitutional law. In 2019, my criminal law article, Simon a Slave v. the State of Florida, was featured on the cover of the Florida Bar Journal, which was an honor.

I speak fluently in Spanish, allowing me to directly communicate with my Spanish-speaking clients without the need for an interpreter or staff member.

As with any law firm, I do charge for my services. However, I assure you that my fees are always fair and reasonable. My fees are determined by several factors, such as the factual complexity of the case, the type of criminal charge, the amount of time spent on the case, and the level of expertise required.

When a potential client contacts me, they occasionally inquire about the possibility of their charges being reduced or dismissed. I cannot provide a guarantee on the outcome of a specific case, but there are certain things that I can assure.

First, I assure you that I will be available to personally address any questions you have regarding your case. Second, I assure you that I will dedicate the necessary time to comprehend the objectives you have for your case. Third, I assure you that I will exert all efforts to achieve the most favorable outcome in your case.

Based on my lifelong friendship and the belief that the best job involves utilizing one’s talents to assist as many individuals as possible, I have found that working as a criminal defense lawyer aligns with this description. I kindly request the opportunity to employ the education, skills, knowledge, and experience I have gained throughout my professional journey to advocate for you and ensure the most favorable outcome in your case.
